I'm Weird.

I've taken this past week (which conveniently, my back agreed with, knocking me flat out on Tuesday morning) to take stock of my life and have a real 'think' about where I'm headed. Part of this was also deciding what approach I want to take to my blog, and to photography as a whole. And, having looked around to some of the photogs and people in general really, that I admire the most, I have decided this:

I don't want to take myself too seriously.

As a kid, I was quite the goody-two-shoes and liked to toe the line, and stay in check. Then, having studied OT in varsity, I discovered a side of myself I quite like: I am crazy :D There, it's out there now! I am too loud a lot of the time, occasionally use bad grammar, put my feet on things they shouldn't go on, and FREQUENTLY embarrass myself, and you know what? I LOVE IT.

So...to cut a long story short, I don't want this blog to be simply a showcase of my photos and skills as they develop. I want everyone who reads my blog to walk away feeling like they know me, and where I'm coming from, a little better. So I'm truly sorry if that offends or doesn't interest you, if it does, please click on one of the feature tabs to look at some pretty pictures :) (don't worry, I won't be offended).

And, in the spirit of this established philosophy, here are 6 random things about me that you may or may not know:

1. I name my electronic devices and possessions. Like my laptop's name is Max, my car's name is Doug (and she's a girl, it's a long story!), my first flash drive was called Percival, and my coffee machine's name is Russel. Yup, certifiably nuts.
2. I have VERY poor coordination, which is shocking for someone trained in OT, I know. Like I walk into things and trip all the time. I won't go into detail on the time I walked into an imaginary pole....
3. I wish I was graceful and ladylike, really I do. But then I go and do things like splitting my pants at work trying to demonstrate a glutes stretch, and well, that kinda ruins the picture.
4. All my life, I've never viewed myself as creative or artistic, until now. Seriously, you should watch me trying to make a line using a ruler.
5. I LOVE cats, though I've only ever owned one that disowned me in favour of my grandmother. If I come to your house and you own a cat, yes I will stalk it. Working on Ross to get me one, or a small dog *hint hint*
6. I talk. ALOT. And use big words frequently, which I sometimes understand and sometimes use completely out of context ;). Like the time I told a work colleague that I'm a suppository of information. I MAY have meant 'repository', but hey, maybe what I said was actually more accurate! ;)

And now, to balance off that deluge of words, here's some pictures I shot today on my 70-200mm 2.8f, my new baby, picked her up this morning and still can't quite believe she's really mine!

UCT buildings are gorgeous.

Beautiful graffiti.

LENS FLARE!

My beautiful city.

Hubby refused to pose for me (something about work, pffft) so had to take pics of my shadow.

Ain't it cool how something as ugly as a pipe can actually be pretty?

*sigh*

CT winter clouds, oooh.

Hope you all have a fabulous weekend! A *big* thank you to everyone for being so supportive :)

I love these posts. It really feels like I'm getting to know you. Point 3 really made me laugh. Would love to hear the story about that, and about point 2. ;)
